If you haven’t already noticed January is a time for a spot of reflection on ByBusby. I thought it was about time to look at 2017 as a whole & look back on my achievements & the moments I’ve loved. Be prepared for lots of flashback photos of my year along with a lot of good vibes.
Moments I’m proud of
To kick off with I have to talk about the things I’m proud of achieving. It hasn’t been a year of immense change but I’ve made a few that have made me happier in the long run. Firstly I started working full time & said goodbye to 4hr shifts. It was a big deal for me because I needed to get my act together so I could start saving to move out.
That obviously leads me onto how proud I am that I finally stopped spending & started saving. Gone are the pointless purchases & now I have a little nest egg to put towards bigger things. This also meant that I could finally get my breast augmentation which was a huge deal. Considering how long I was debating it, all it took was a few months of strict saving to put a deposit down. Plus I can officially say I paid the full cost off before the end of the year!
I’m also proud of myself for letting things go. It may sound simple but this year is the first year in a long time I haven’t spent worrying about pointless things & instead I’ve been investing my time wisely. No longer am I wrapped up in petty drama or surrounded by people who aren’t good for my health. I’ve taken steps to ensure I’m at my happiest.
In reflection 2017 has been a year full of new experiences. I’ve really spent my time enjoying things & creating new memories. Firstly me & Jacob had our first holiday together which was wonderful. Poland was beautiful & we went at such a good time. The weather was lush & we did so many things (read more here). I definitely want to continue exploring Europe this year.
Even though we didn’t travel much, we did squeeze in lots of events; download was a big highlight because it felt like such a relaxed break away. Relaxing may not be your first thought when it comes to a festival but we really enjoyed sunning ourselves in the field listening to the main stage. Of course we got to see some really great bands too but the contrast to my first download expierence made it such a highlight for me.
Finally I had to give Kate Nash a mention because her Made of bricks tour was amazing. It honestly couldn’t have been better & even though we were a little skeptical at first it passed all our expectations. The album itself isn’t always upbeat but the whole gig was truly exciting. Kate made the whole album fun & it just made the teenager it me come to life.
In all honesty I think 2017 has been the year for ByBusby. I’ve invested a lot more time & actual money into creating content that I’m proud of. I’ve rebranded twice; once from Busby beauty & fashion (what a mouthful) then moving over to self hosted WordPress & I’m finally at a place I’m happy with.
Over this year I’ve really invested in my content. I’m no longer putting out any content that could be deemed fillers & I’ve written about things that interested me. Sometimes that’s fashion which I’ve always leaned towards but mainly it’s lifestyle posts that express who I am. Some of my favourite posts fall under that category & I’m loving the photos I’ve created alongside my posts this year.
Some of my favourite posts include; Blogger who help bloggers, The importance of mental health days, Is there room for new bloggers, It’s time to say thank you, Living with high functioning mental health & Three cliffs bay.
I’ve also been able to venture into working with brands a little more even though this is something I need to invest more time in this year. I’ve focused on cruelty free companies & been able to create content that’s more me. I’m proud to have been contacted by bigger brands like boots & even been asked to feature in a BBC3 video (even though I couldn’t make the shoot). I feels like I’m being recognised for my hard work & I couldn’t be prouder of that.
Bloggers I’m happy to have discovered
Not only have I invested more time in ByBusby I’ve also invested more time in the blogosphere. I’ve connected with soo many new bloggers through twitter & I spend more time reading blogs. I really upped my blogging game by looking at other bloggers & using their knowledge their are happy to share.
Throughout the year I made new friendships & I’ve learnt so much more through connecting with the blogosphere. I couldn’t recommend engaging with the community more. A few bloggers I have to mention are; Maria J, Holly (thekittyluxe), Jemma (Dorkface), Robyn (midnightandlace), Gemma (mummyinthemadhouse) & Louise (formidablejoy).
There’s many more bloggers who’s content I’ve loved or I’ve connected with but if I carried on this post would never end!
On reflection this year has been a turning point for me; I’ve put in the hard work to create a life that makes me happy. Looking back makes you realise what you’ve achieved & I’m pretty proud of what I’ve done in 2017. I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings. What was your highlight of 2017?
