5 Thoughts About Sex And The City

I’ve been rewatching sex and the city, mainly because it’s on Nowtv & well Jacob is away so the rest of our regular shows are out the window. It got me thinking about how rewatching a tv programme can enlighten you to things you never thought of the first time around. It’s not like its the second time I’ve seen it but I’ve definitely been more reflective this time round so here’s a 5 things I’ve realised.5 Thoughts About Sex & City - sex and the city collage

Carrie’s fashion is not so great

This may be debatable to some but for someone that’s meant to be a fashion icon I think her outfits aren’t that great. I can’t lie & say they are all terrible but most of them just don’t work for me. I know times have changed but in all honesty I much prefer Samantha’s style. I just think Carrie over does it & her combinations don’t work. I’m no fashionista but her style is way too out there for me.

Big is an idiot but so is Carrie

You can’t discuss sex & the city without talking about Mr big. It’s the central relationship & well Carrie keeps going back. We can’t deny big carries charm & status but he’s a complete idiot. He can’t commit but is happy to lead people on, he doesn’t respect Carrie’s feeling/views & he gets love struck over a random women then acts like a child. All the things he complained about happening to him in that relationship he previously did to Carrie. I have no respect for him & it makes no sense that Carrie goes back. Even she discusses that she’s a glutton for punishment yet she keeps doing it. It makes me lose a bit of respect for her too.

Inspiration comes from life

Just like I’m sat here writing this post because I’m watching sex & the city Carrie’s column comes from her life. It’s a simple as that; her content comes from what she & her friends are experiencing in the here & now. It just seems to flow & maybe my content doesn’t always come so easy but sometimes it can. We write about topics that are hot right now or that have been on our mind because of what one person said. It’s quite refreshing to think that inspiration can come from everyday life & it doesn’t need to be a big thing for it to work.

Sex can be simply sex

I’m not totally a sexual person & I’m not afraid to admit that. I’m pretty much a sleep with people I’m dating kinda person but that’s just me & people are all very different. Some people like myself sleep with just people who they are dating & others are more free with their sexuality. Either way there’s no judgement; sex can be just that; sex. Fulfilling your desires whatever way you wish is okay & I love that sex & the city teaches women that. Casual sex isn’t just for men!

Clashing personalities can work

I took psychology in uni (for the short time I stayed) & well I focused on relationships, how they work & why they don’t. One thing I learnt is that similarities are key to a successful relationship & differences can cause strain. When it comes to friendships differences seem to work better. Just look at the foursome, they get on so well & yes sometimes they class but on the most part they bounce off each other really well. They have similarities but they are all very different people & it makes their friendship spark. Who wouldn’t want a fab group of friends to rely on? As much as I love having that one best friend there are times when you need a bigger group to really get that interesting atmosphere full of different opinions.

So there we have it; 5 things I’ve discovered on reflection of sex and the city . I can quite happily say this was the easiest post I’ve written in a while. I love when creativity sparks & you can’t help but write. I would love to know if you’ve seen sex and the city & if you agree with my points.

Haha, all so true! So many shows that I adored when I was younger, I look back on and find so many contradictions!

I agree with every single one of those! I adore SATC but every time I rewatch it, as I’m getting older, I find more things that annoy me about Carrie! I love to hate part of her personality though and definitely her fashion sense isn’t for me. I’m a Charlotte girl for fashion – I love her preppiness.
