Slow styling may be news to some but it’s now making its way to through the blogosphere & hopefully it’ll hit the mainstream very soon. I previously wrote about my new outlook on fashion & how I going to be making changes to how I shop. Since I’m now focusing on buying items are are worthwhile rather than throw away I wanted to create a blog series showcasing my staples; starting with denim which is a huge part of my wardrobe.
If you’re someone who pays attention you’ve noticed I wore a variation of this outfit in a previous post or two. I absolutely adore this mini dress but I’ve been poop on the old blog front so these pictures are coming months later (hence the red bob too). Denim is probably the biggest part of my wardrobe as I can imagine it is for most people. It’s such a simple material you probably don’t even consider it a staple but majority of my outfits will contain a denim element so it’s definitely one for me.
How is denim such a staple in my wardrobe?
I have so many denim items that I have a whole draw dedicated to them & a lot more hanging in my wardrobe. I never really realised I had an obsession with buying jeans till I began packing my life up. I still have way too many jeans but I love to have a variety to choose from & if they fit they aren’t going in the bin!
From skinny high waisted joni to the most comfortable mom jeans in the world I have a lot to choose from. Okay a lot of them are a variation of black but we all need a really good pair of black jeans. Then we need a really good pair of standard black jeans, ripped black jeans & comfortable black jeans…. right?
Okay its not just jeans I own I promise; I do have a variety of skirts, shorts, jumpsuits & dresses. Clearly I love a bit of denim.
Why is it such a staple for me?
Now we’ve established denim is everywhere in my wardrobe let’s discuss why is such a staple. Personally I just think it works well for me & my body. That’s not me saying that denim is a go to for skinny white girls but I have found a few styles of jeans that flatter my figure & I love it. Denim can work for everyone if you know what to look for.
I have discovered that highwaisted skinnies work well for my figure because they elongate my legs & I love a tucked in look. On the other hand I also love a mom/boyfriend style jean too because they are very comfortable but give you a laid back look. I couldn’t care if I look like I have zero arse; they feel good & I think they suit my style.
Denim comes in such a variety of options that you can create your own style. I love items that you can put your own personal spin on. Like this dress; I’ve worn it with long sleeves & layered in but another person might keep it more simple.
Denim works for me because it is versatile.
I’m going to be slowly adding to this slow styling series & I hope I’m not just waffling on. I know my blog has grown out of a fashion related angle but sometimes is nice to re-explore that side of it. Please let me know if you are enjoying taking a look into my wardrobe staples & let me know if denim features a lot in yours too. I need to know if I am a crazy jean lady or not!
